HIT ZONE (HZO)
Between August 2012 and November 2014 I ran Hit Zone at HitZoneOnline.com. I wrote several articles and did a bunch of different things for the site during that time. These are some of my favorite stories I wrote.
March 2014: 1D Madness
My favorite thing I ever did at Hit Zone happened to be one of the last big things we did before discontinuing - 1D Madness. A take on the name March Madness I took every single One Direction song ever and put them head-to-head in a bracket style battle. In each round fans voted on the songs and picked a winner. By the end of the month we narrowed it down and a winner was named. Fans loved it and it was shared across all social networks multiple times by big fans of the band and was wildly successful.
January 2014: Opinion: Liam Payne Sends Tweet to ‘Duck Dynasty’ Star and The Internet Overreacts
This was one of my favorite stories because it was one of the few times I felt the need to truly defend an artist. The internet went nuts after Liam Payne made a meaningless tweet and then followed with a rant afterwards. Being a fan of Liam, I felt the need to defend him and I felt like I made some valid points. The opinion piece was shared all over on Twitter and Tumblr with people siding with me on the subject and it turned out to be one of my most popular posts.
December 2013: HZO Best of 2013: Top 25 Hottest Guys of the Year
One of my favorite things at Hit Zone was the end of the year lists and polls. Because much of our audience was girls it was no wonder the "Hottest Guys" category was always the most popular one and easily the most competitive which made it the most fun. I always found it interesting to see who would take the lead on a daily basis and I loved putting this list, and every year end list, together in 2012 and 2013.
November 2013: One Direction – ‘Midnight Memories’ Track-By-Track Album Review
The most popular post I ever wrote was my track by track review of One Direction's Midnight Memories album. I was a big fan of this album when it was released and wrote a very positive and honest review that One Direction fans loved. I love doing track by track reviews and this one was by far my favorite for Hit Zone.
September 2013: Introducing the NEW Hit Zone!
When we moved from Weebly to Wordpress it was a pretty big deal and very exciting. It was a long, long process transferring over a good chunk of our stories and posts while making sure the website looked great and ran properly for launch day. I loved writing this intro post to introduce our readers to the new website layout and show off all the new ways they could find what they wanted.
September 2013: 10 Songs That Will Always Remind You of Summer 2013
I loved doing lists on Hit Zone and this one was one of my favorites. 2013 was a year of lots of great new music with big hits that dominated the radio airwaves. I put this little list together of the summer's biggest songs that to this day people are reminded of 2013 when they hear them.
January 2013: Hit Zone's Interview with My Box Clothing Creator Andy Samuels
I was thrilled to have the opportunity to talk with Andy Samuels, who is star on social media and friends with Liam Payne. He owned a clothing brand at the time called My Box Clothing and I talked with Andy all about his inspirations behind the brand, his style, and lots more. It was the biggest interview that I personally did for the website and it was extremely popular.
